Cadets of the Ulyanovsk Aviation Institute landed a training aircraft without a front landing gear wheel, Rosaviatsiya reported.
The incident occurred on August 19 at the Soldatskaya Tashla airfield in the Ulyanovsk region. During training flights, a Diamond DA40 training aircraft lost a wheel from its front landing gear strut.
There were two fourth-year cadets on board the aircraft — Vladislav Shevchenko and Vladislav Gubanov, each with 60 hours of flight time.
Shevchenko was acting as the aircraft commander. After detecting the malfunction, the cadets decided to burn fuel in the Krasny Guliai area to minimize the risk during landing. At approximately 17:47 Moscow time, the plane successfully landed on the runway without the front landing gear wheel.
