Зачем России Pratt & Whitney, если есть ПД-14: свой двигатель дешевле и экономичнее

The life cycle cost of the domestic unit is 20% lower than that of the PW1431G

The United Engine Corporation (UEC) is in full swing working on a new PD-14 engine for the MC-21 aircraft. The domestic power plant surpasses the American PW1431G unit from Pratt & Whitney.

PD-14

Most MC-21s were originally planned with PW1431G. The decision was made because there were simply no ready-made analogues in Russia, and the ground infrastructure was also better adapted to American engines.

However, in 2022, the US authorities banned Pratt & Whitney from cooperating with Russia; at that time, we had only two PW1431G engines.

Nevertheless, the domestic unit turned out to be even better than its American counterpart in terms of characteristics:

  • 10-15% less reduced specific fuel consumption
  • 20% lower life cycle cost
  • 15-20 dB below standard noise level
  • Domestic composite materials ensured a reduction in the weight of the unit
  • Completely domestic origin

The Perm Design Bureau "UEC-Aviadvigatel" presented a few days ago innovative grilles of the reversing device of the PD-14 aircraft engine made of Russian-made carbon fiber.
