On August 15, 2025, power unit No. 4 with the BN-800 reactor of the Beloyarsk NPP (Zarechny, Sverdlovsk region) was shut down for scheduled preventive maintenance and equipment modernization. The activities are aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the power unit.
As part of the repair, it is planned to reload 181 fuel assemblies, replace an intermediate heat exchanger weighing 58 tons, and modernize the turbine generator cooling systems. In particular, additional pumping units will be installed, which will increase the redundancy of systems. In total, 1544 items are to be completed, which will take 87,620 person-hours.
According to the acting chief engineer of the Beloyarsk NPP, Ilya Filin, among the key tasks is the replacement of the electric motor of the main circulation pump and monitoring the condition of metal structures. It is planned to complete the repair and resume operation of the power unit in October 2025.
In addition to the listed preventive work, we will reload 181 fuel assemblies into the BN-800 core, replace the electric motor of the main circulation pump 2GCN-2, and perform operational metal inspection. In total, according to the repair sheets of power unit No. 4, it is necessary to complete 1544 items. This will take 87,620 person-hours.
The Beloyarsk NPP is the only nuclear power plant in Russia with fast neutron reactors. Power unit No. 4 with the BN-800 reactor was put into operation in 2016 and provides power supply to the region.
