Russian archaeologists no longer give finds for genetic analysis to foreign colleagues. Russia has replaced the technology with import substitution

First of all, the genetics of the Scythians were studied in Russia on their own

Russian genetics has reached a new, significant level. According to the director of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nikolai Makarov, Russia now has the ability to conduct large genetic studies entirely on its own, without having to send biomaterials abroad.

We have, in general, been practicing the transfer of these (archaeological) samples outside our country for study for quite a long time. And now, finally, we have overcome, so to speak, this tradition. We do everything ourselves, we are able to carry out such large genetic projects ourselves.
Nikolai Makarov, Academician, Director of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Previously, Russian scientists had to send archaeological finds abroad for genetic analysis. However, this dependence has now been overcome. The results of the first fully domestic study of the genetics of the Scythians were published in the summer. Scientists have found that European and Asian representatives of this people had genetic differences. This achievement was made possible thanks to the long-term work of archaeologists in collecting and preserving skeletal remains. As Makarov noted, all studies were conducted exclusively in Russian laboratories, which indicates a significant increase in the country's scientific potential in genetics and archeology.
