WhatsApp promised to provide access to the messenger for users in Russia

About 100 million people in Russia use it

WhatsApp messenger announced its intention to provide access to calls protected by end-to-end encryption for users around the world, including Russia, despite partial restrictions.

According to the service, about 100 million people in Russia use WhatsApp, making it one of the most popular means of communication in the country.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor reported on a partial restriction of calls in WhatsApp and Telegram, explaining this by the fight against fraud and the involvement of citizens in subversive and terrorist activities.

The Ministry of Digital Development later added that access to calls will be restored after the messengers comply with the requirements of Russian legislation.
