A near-full Moon will create skyglow during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower on the night of August 13, 2025. This was reported at the Moscow Planetarium.
The Perseids are annually active from July 17 to August 31. This year, the maximum flow is expected on August 13 — astronomers predict up to 100 meteors per hour. Increased activity may persist for several nights before and after the peak.
According to the planetarium, the Moon, which was full on August 9, will significantly complicate observation. It will appear above the horizon after 21:00 Moscow time on August 12 and will gradually illuminate the sky.
The Moon on the night of the maximum is close to the full moon, which passed on August 9, 2025, it will appear from behind the horizon after 9 pm and, gradually rising higher and higher, will significantly interfere with the observation of meteors.
On the night of the peak, the Earth's satellite will be near Saturn. Venus and Jupiter will also be clearly visible in the sky.
