Igor Balynin, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told the Prime agency about ways to reduce the cost of home Internet services. The expert suggested options for optimizing costs by abandoning unused services and more favorable tariffs.
Home Internet costs can be reduced by checking the connected services and reviewing the terms of the current tariff. Often, the Internet bill includes additional services - television, antivirus or cloud storage, which the user does not use. Disabling them will reduce the total amount of the monthly payment.
One common scenario is when Internet, TV and mobile communications are paid for by different operators. Combining all services into a single package from one provider can significantly reduce total costs. Package offers are most often cheaper than separate connections, and in some cases can reduce costs by almost half.
Internet speed is another important parameter that affects the cost. If there is excessive speed that is not used in everyday life, it is reasonable to choose a tariff with lower characteristics. This will reduce the fee without compromising the quality of services.
Providers are actively offering discounts to new subscribers. Welcome promotions can reach 50–100% during the first months of service, or provide a reduced tariff for up to a year. This opportunity should be used when changing the operator or re-registering the contract.
If you are away from home for a long time, for example, on vacation or on a business trip, you should check with your provider about the possibility of temporarily suspending the service. This avoids unnecessary expenses for unused access.
Since the beginning of the year, the cost of home Internet and paid television in Russia has increased by 5–15%. This was shown by an analysis of the tariff grids of operators and official messages on their websites, conducted by Izvestia. The growth was confirmed by industry experts, who pointed out that tariffs have increased by an average of 100 rubles.
