New development by Ulyanovsk company reduces defects in the production of superconducting cables at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research

Nord Clan's system helps JINR save hundreds of thousands of rubles on each cable

Nord Clan has implemented a machine vision system to control the winding of superconducting cables at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). The ML Sense solution automatically detects defects and stops production in case of critical deviations.

Superconducting cables are used in particle accelerators, medical tomographs, and energy storage systems. A winding error, even by a single turn, renders the cable unusable. The cost of one cable reaches hundreds of thousands of rubles.

The Nord Clan system analyzes the process in real time. The accuracy of defect detection is 99%. This is the second joint project between the company and JINR. Previously, they automated the quality control of superconducting tape.
