Ryazan Radio Engineering University (RGRTU) has won a tender to create optical transmitting and receiving modules for base stations and drones. The project, called "Nit-4," is estimated at 19.8 million rubles.
Optical communication will solve the key problems of modern UAVs: limited range, vulnerability to radio interference, and channel overload. The new modules should work even under strong sunlight and optical losses. The main advantage is the absence of the need for licensed frequencies.
The project deadlines are tight: the work must be completed by December 31, 2025. If the technology proves successful, it will allow the mass use of drones in one area without mutual interference.
