New UMPB-5 aerial bomb for Su-34 turned out to be a descendant of the D-30SN from the Tornado-S MLRS

The gliding munition was equipped with modernized targeting systems

The Russian military has received new UMPB-5 gliding aerial bombs, which have become a further development of the D-30SN projectile from the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).

UMPB-5 has a larger warhead and a more durable body than the D-30SN version. The new munition also has a longer flight range due to modified guidance systems and wings.

There are no official technical characteristics of the new projectiles. According to data from open sources, it is known that the range of the UMPB-5 depends on the method of application.

About 90–120 km — when dropped from an aircraft at a normal height (10–12 km, speed 900–1000 km/h), up to 145–160 km when dropped from a high altitude and higher speed (~13,500 m, 1250–1350 km/h), from 270 to 320 km — if used as a gliding stage for a 300-mm MLRS.

Earlier www1.ru reported that footage has appeared from tests of the laser air defense system of the Posokh project.
