Bakanov and the acting head of NASA agreed on the operation of the ISS until 2028

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, and the acting director of NASA, Sean Duffy, held the first face-to-face negotiations in the United States since 2018. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to extend the operation of the International Space Station until 2028. Joint preparations for its deorbiting by 2030 were also discussed.

Bakanov noted that the American side confirmed its participation in the ISS extension program. In addition, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation on lunar programs, deep space missions, cross-flights, and other areas of interaction.

We will additionally prepare questions on the joint agenda, which we agreed to include the use of our national orbital stations that will come after the ISS, and how we will interact on working with them and on a number of deep space missions

The negotiations also touched upon the activities of the Russian-American working group dealing with the safe deorbiting of the ISS and its subsequent flooding.

The head of Roscosmos said that he would report the results of the negotiations to the President of Russia. According to him, the implementation of a number of projects will require approval at the highest level due to the current international circumstances.
