Russian 5G Antenna Reached 1 Gbps Speed in Moscow Tests

Moscow Scientists Confirm the Functionality of Domestic 5G Antenna in Real-World Conditions

A 5G antenna developed by Russian specialists has been successfully tested in Moscow. The testing took place at the 5G demo center at VDNH, where the antenna, created by scientists from MIPT, demonstrated data transfer speeds of up to 1 Gbps. This allows downloading an HD movie in 30 seconds, which is ten times faster than regular home internet. All components of the antenna, including screws and connectors, are made in Russia.

The Russian 5G antenna, developed by specialists from MIPT, has successfully passed tests as part of a domestic base station, which confirms the potential of Russian solutions.
Evgeny Novikov, Advisor to the Deputy Head of the Department of Information Technologies of Moscow

The testing was conducted at the capital's 5G demo center in the "Smart City" pavilion, opened in 2020. This platform brings together business, science, and urban projects, providing access to unique equipment for technology testing.

The antenna was created under the guidance of scientists from MIPT. Grigory Seregin, Head of the Department of Applied Research at MIPT, emphasized:

Our antenna is 100% domestic, down to the screws and connectors used. The use of only Russian components and materials imposes a number of restrictions and complicates the process of developing and manufacturing the antenna. The test results demonstrate the fundamental possibility of operating fifth-generation mobile networks based on domestic technical solutions with speeds of about 1 Gbps, which in turn means technological readiness for the deployment of commercial services.
Grigory Seregin, Head of the Department of Applied Research and Development of Advanced Cellular Communication Solutions at MIPT

Tests have proven readiness for the deployment of commercial 5G services in Russia. The demo center at VDNH is open to large companies, startups, and students. Solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and other smart city technologies are being tested here. The cooperation between MIPT and the Moscow Department of Information Technologies, закреплённое соглашением, supports the development of high-speed networks and innovations.
