The newest Russian intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle «Oreshnik» is not intended for use against absolutely any target, according to the authors of the Telegram channel «Military Chronicle».
They noted that the missile is not suitable, contrary to popular belief, for strikes against targets such as airfields, warehouses, and air defense (AD) units.
The authors, referring to the report «Combat operations in the depth of enemy defense» from 1983, note that in Soviet times it was proposed to use the 9K72 (R-17) missile system with a warhead weighing from 50 to 100 kg to strike airfields, the modern analogues of which are «Kinzhal» and «Iskander».
In the publication, experts concluded that the use of «Oreshnik» for strikes against airfields contradicts doctrinal norms.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the cruiser «Admiral Nakhimov» with «Caliber», «Zircon» and «Onyx» has completed repairs.
