The largest Russian truck manufacturer, KamAZ, has announced a switch to a shorter work week in some departments due to sales problems. This decision affects those departments that do not have a full workload. This was reported in a press release from the automaker.
The lack of prospects for market growth and the pressure from the remaining equipment of importers force us to show responsibility and take unpopular but necessary measures to reduce production and announce the introduction of a one-day shorter work week from August 1. This decision will only affect those departments that do not have a full workload.
At the end of the first half of 2025, the market for trucks over 14 tons decreased by almost 60%. KamAZ attributes this to the excessive import of equipment by importers last year, as well as the monetary policy of the Central Bank. This made it impossible to purchase new equipment on credit or lease. As a result, importers have accumulated more than 30 thousand trucks in warehouses, and leasing companies have more than 10 thousand units of equipment that were returned by transport and other companies.
With the current forecast of the Russian truck market over 14 tons in 2025 from 40 to 60 thousand units, and taking into account that more than 20 thousand units have already been sold in the first half of the year, mainly from stocks, no growth in sales of equipment produced in 2025 is expected.
Despite the general problems in the market, KamAZ's own sales decreased by less than 30%, which is twice as good as the average market indicators. The company's market share increased to 40%.
Currently, the management of KamAZ and the sales department are actively negotiating with traditional and new customers about the purchase of additional equipment in order to ensure production loading until the situation in the market recovers.
Earlier www1.ru reported that PJSC KamAZ transferred new K5 flagships to customers.
