Su-34 Fighters Use New UMPB-5 Ammunition for Tornado-S MLRS for the First Time

The basic version of the product is a 300 mm diameter body with folding wings

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have used the latest universal interspecific gliding ammunition UMPB-5 for the first time. The launch range of the product was approximately 100 km.

Official data on the existence of the UMPB-5 modification is not available in open sources.

According to preliminary information, the basic version of the UMPB-5 is a 300 mm diameter body with folding wings. The UMPB carries more than 100 kg of explosive, and goes to the target using data from a satellite guidance system.

It is believed that the product can be dropped from aircraft and launched using the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system.

The range of the UMPB-5 depends on the method of application. About 90–120 km when dropped from an aircraft at a normal altitude (10–12 km, speed 900–1000 km/h), up to 145–160 km when dropped from a high altitude and higher speed (~13,500 m, 1250–1350 km/h), from 270 to 320 km if used as a gliding stage for 300-mm MLRS.
