The Baltic Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has completed the installation of the main switchboard (MSB) on the nuclear icebreaker Chukotka, Project 22220. This is a key element of the ship's power system, responsible for distributing electricity between all ship systems.
The eight-section structure, weighing 14.5 tons, was installed using crane equipment and special rigging. The work was carried out by specialists from the slipway, outfitting and painting, and ship assembly shops. This is the second MSB on board; the first was installed earlier this year.
The next stage of construction is preparation for mooring trials, during which the operability of all icebreaker systems will be checked. During operation, electricity will be supplied to the MSB from the ship's generators and then distributed to consumers. The switchboard also monitors the parameters of electricity, ensuring stable operation of the equipment.
Chukotka is the fifth Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker being built at the Baltic Shipyard by order of Rosatom.
