State Duma deputies from the "New People" faction have proposed expanding the OSAGO policy to include compensation for damage to cars flooded during rainstorms.
In a letter to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, the deputies ask to instruct the relevant departments to consider the possibility of including weather risks in the mandatory insurance program. The reason was the increasing cases of car flooding in Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions. According to them, in Moscow alone, hundreds of cars were partially or completely submerged on July 21.
The authors of the initiative note that the current OSAGO system does not provide for compensation for damage related to natural phenomena, and vehicle owners are forced to repair cars at their own expense. This, according to the deputies, is especially unfair for those who cannot afford voluntary CASCO insurance.
Parliamentarians believe that making changes to OSAGO will provide more fair protection of the interests of all motorists.
