Проект по виртуальной реконструкции железной дороги запустят в Екатеринбурге

Scientists and railway workers will use 3D modeling and animation maps

A series of virtual reconstructions dedicated to the work of the Sverdlovsk Railway during the Great Patriotic War is planned to be created in Yekaterinburg. The project will be implemented by 2028. It is timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the railway.

The Sverdlovsk Railway (SvZhD), together with Ural scientists, intends to use modern technologies such as 3D reconstructions and animation maps to make historical events more accessible and interesting to a wide audience.

Professor Konstantin Bugrov from the Institute of History and Archeology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences noted that the project will help draw attention to important historical topics related to transport and production.

At the first stage, objects in Yekaterinburg will be studied, and in the future, the project may expand to Perm and Nizhny Tagil. The possibility of creating interactive games for passengers waiting for trains is being considered.

The idea for the project arose after a street exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory, which presented archival photographs reflecting the atmosphere of military railway stations and evacuation. Deputy Head of SvZhD Ivan Bogaenko emphasized that during the war years, the railway played a key role in the transportation of industrial enterprises and resources, which was critical for victory in the Great Patriotic War.
