During the admission campaign to universities, fraudsters actively deceive applicants, posing as representatives of educational institutions. Journalists are writing about this.
One such case occurred with a girl who failed the test at a popular university. She received a call and was offered a second attempt, asking her to register on a fake website of the educational institution. The victim needed to enter the code received via SMS.
The fraudsters knew the girl's personal data and were convincing. The girl was saved from the deception by the fact that the registration took place from her mother's phone. The attackers tried to access her account on «Gosuslugi», but the system blocked their actions.
After that, the fraudsters called again, demanding the identification code, but this time the girl did not answer. After contacting the educational institution, she learned that such scams have become widespread since the beginning of the summer. Universities and colleges are required to publish test results, which allows fraudsters to call applicants in the hope of success.
The Ministry of Education also warned about new scams when fraudsters offer guaranteed enrollment in a state-funded place for money. They operate through social networks and messengers, sending messages with offers to solve problems.
Attackers create fake groups, posing as representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, and may request personal data. Therefore, it is important to verify information, block suspicious calls, and never share your data.
