Russian engineers are helping their Indian colleagues to repair and modernize the Kashmir (Shtil) shipborne anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). This was reported in the press service of Rosoboronexport.
SAM systems were supplied from Russia to India from the late 90s for installation on Project 15 Delhi-class escort destroyers. Rosoboronexport explained that the modernization of the system will allow the use of not only the standard, but also a new inclined launch anti-aircraft guided missile (SAM). It is equipped with Shtil-1 SAM systems on Talwar and Shivalik class frigates.
The Shtil-1 shipborne SAM system is designed to engage all modern air attack weapons at medium ranges and target flight altitudes from 5 m to 15 km. It was developed by employees of the Moscow Research Institute of Radio Electronics Altair (part of the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern).
Characteristics of Shtil-1:
- Number of simultaneously engaged targets - up to 12
- Target speeds - up to 830 m/s
- Reaction time in standby mode - 10-19 seconds
