State Duma decides to mark users with criminal records on dating sites

New initiative aims to improve safety in online dating

A new initiative is being discussed in Russia regarding the safety of users on dating services. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) and the Ministry of Digital Development (Mintsifry) supported the proposal of State Duma deputy Ksenia Goryacheva to introduce labeling of citizens with outstanding criminal records.

According to the proposal, a special mark will appear on dating sites, informing users about the presence of a criminal record of potential interlocutors. In addition, a service is being developed that will allow organizations to receive information about criminal records in a "yes/no" format, without access to users' personal data.

The mechanism will only apply to those who have outstanding criminal records for serious and especially serious articles. It is important to note that consent to provide such information will be given voluntarily, and without it, the data will not be transferred.

Ksenia Goryacheva emphasized that this initiative is aimed at creating a safer and more honest environment for online dating. Representatives of dating sites also supported this initiative, noting its usefulness and safety.
