To avoid becoming a victim of fraud, Russians should be especially careful when using online services and remember the most common methods of deception using fake payment forms. The Cyber Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has warned about several popular schemes.
One such scheme is the use of fake copies of well-known online stores by fraudsters, as well as fake pages of the Faster Payments System (SBP). The bank card data entered on such sites goes directly into the hands of attackers.
A particular danger is posed by the so-called "one-day websites," which offer goods at suspiciously low prices. After payment, the buyer loses not only money, but also all contact with the "seller."
Also, fraudsters actively place ads for real estate rentals on legitimate online platforms, but then transfer communication to messengers and offer to go to fake booking sites, thereby deceiving users.
The damage from Internet crimes is becoming increasingly significant. In 2024 alone, losses from cyber fraud increased by 36% and reached 200 billion rubles. The main targets of attackers remain online shoppers and bank customers.
According to Evgeny Egorov, a leading analyst at Digital Risk Protection company F6, the most common schemes remain false prize draws, fictitious investment projects, as well as websites and applications that completely mimic the appearance of official resources. The main goals of criminals are to steal money, banking data, and access to user accounts.
