The United States has lifted sanctions against Russia that hindered the construction of the "Paks-2" nuclear power plant in Hungary, a project by Rosatom. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó.
In November 2024, the administration of then-US President Joe Biden imposed sanctions against Gazprombank, which was used to finance the project.
Fortunately, since January, a president (Donald Trump) who sees Hungary as a friend has appeared in the White House in Washington. Based on this, the US government has lifted sanctions on investments in the "Paks" nuclear power plant.
Despite the sanctions pressure, specialists from the Rosatom Group began forging a batch of blanks for the elements of the reactor vessel of the sixth power unit of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in early April 2025. The total weight of the blanks was 600 tons.
