Solaris HS sedan production may be suspended due to component shortage

Depletion of component stocks raises questions about the continued production of this model

Production of the Solaris HS sedan (formerly Hyundai Solaris), which started at the AGR Automotive plant in St. Petersburg in March 2024, may face a shortage of vehicle kits. This is indicated by several factors, including a drop in the model's share of sales and its absence from the list of subsidized car loans.

While in 2024, the HS was the brand's undisputed bestseller — accounting for 87% of sales (about 13,000 vehicles) — in the first five months of 2025, its share has already decreased to 27%. The leader was the Solaris HC crossover (formerly Hyundai Creta) with a share of 37% and sales of just over 3,000 vehicles. In May, the HS showed the lowest sales among the four models of the brand.

Against the backdrop of declining interest in the model, its physical presence in dealerships is also noticeably decreasing. In St. Petersburg, the share of HS in the offer of official dealers is only 5–20%, which is significantly lower compared to other Solaris models.

The basis for such trends may be restrictions on available vehicle kits. Solaris cars are produced using large stocks of components left after the departure of Hyundai-KIA. These stocks were estimated at 50–70 thousand kits at the beginning of 2024 and were distributed among the four models of the brand. At the same time, total sales of HS alone have already exceeded 15,000, which may indicate the imminent depletion of resources specifically for this model.

An indirect confirmation of the shortage may be the fact that the HS is not included in the state program of preferential car loans, unlike the other three models — HC, KRS, and KRX. This may indicate both a limited production volume and a strategy to stimulate demand for other models of the brand.

So far, the company has not issued any official comments regarding the reasons for the decline in sales and current plans for the production of Solaris HS. However, in the context of depleting component stocks, the HS sedan may become the first model in the lineup at risk of production suspension.
