The State Duma of Russia has approved a bill that increases fines for refusing to stop at the request of the police. The corresponding law has passed the third reading and is now awaiting signing.
Now the fine for ignoring the requirements of a police officer will increase from the current 500–800 rubles to 7–10 thousand rubles — 12.5–14 times more.
The bill amends Article 12.25 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (Administrative Code). It establishes increased administrative liability for repeated violations. In case of repeated failure to comply with the police officer's request to stop, the driver faces a fine of 10 thousand rubles or deprivation of the right to drive a car for a period of four to six months.
Amendments will also be made to Article 12.21.1 of the Administrative Code, concerning the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles. For violation of traffic rules in the area of automatic weight and size control, drivers will be fined 10 thousand rubles and deprived of their license. For vehicle owners, the fine will be 100 thousand rubles.
