The highly publicized American infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) Bradley are often disabled by just one or two hits from UAVs. This opinion was expressed by Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Rostec cluster of weapons, ammunition and special chemistry.
Ozdoev noted that there is often talk now about the need to develop heavy IFVs and APCs, as well as the use of light equipment such as buggies and ATVs. But these solutions cannot be called universal.
According to him, a heavy IFV capable of withstanding multiple hits from ATGM and FPV drones will be too massive - about 60 tons.
In an attempt to implement such a project, something much larger than the widely publicized Bradley today will result, which is often disabled by one or two hits, despite the presence of Brat dynamic protection.
Heavy equipment will require a reinforced chassis, a powerful engine, and a complex transmission, Ozdoev added.
Russian engineers are developing heavy IFVs, but these «machines will never become widespread, since their production is very expensive». The Russian Armed Forces need affordable transport, and heavy IFVs are specialized equipment, the Rostec representative summarized.
