Since mid-2024, stories about the potential steering wheel lock on the Lada Vesta have been circulating online. The problem supposedly occurs while driving. One of the car owners carefully read the operating instructions and stated that the described stories are nothing more than a myth.
The published messages stated that the steering wheel lock supposedly occurs unexpectedly. Among the possible explanations, versions about malfunctions in the electric power steering were put forward. A user of the Drive2.ru website with the nickname Winget stated that possible problems with the steering wheel lock are described in the instructions.
It turned out that before restarting the engine, it is necessary to wait at least 5 seconds. If this is not done, the car may start, but the steering wheel will remain locked. Winget explains that most cases of locking occurred after a hasty restart of the engine, when drivers, without waiting for the required time, tried to quickly start the car to avoid inconvenience on the road.
From a technical point of view, the situation is as follows: when the engine is turned off, the UBCM body electronics unit sends a signal to lock the steering wheel. If at this moment the driver tries to restart the engine, the system ignores the unlock command, as it is busy executing the previous command. This can lead to a situation where the car starts, but the steering wheel remains locked.
Thus, to avoid trouble, Lada Vesta owners should remember: before restarting the engine, you need to wait 5 seconds.
