St. Petersburg authorities: Construction of warships does not depend on imports

Production of marine equipment has been localized in Russia to a sufficient extent

The localization process in shipbuilding is proceeding at an accelerated pace, which is associated with the construction of ships and vessels for military needs. This was stated by St. Petersburg Vice Governor Kirill Polyakov on the sidelines of SPIEF-2025.

Submarine "Kaluga"
All our warships are absolutely import-independent. Therefore, in this part, the production of marine equipment is already highly localized.
Kirill Pozdnyakov, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg

According to him, representatives of civil shipbuilding work with the same component base. Many of them conduct research at their own expense.

Pozdnyakov added that more than 100 pilot design developments are in pilot production at the shipbuilding complex enterprises of St. Petersburg. Of these, over 60% have reached the final stages.

Among the companies with a scientific and technical reserve, he noted Navitek, ABS Hydro, Navis, and Obukhov.
