Production volume of Kh-101 cruise missiles for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers increased in Russia

The munition entered service with the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2012

Russia has increased the production rate of Kh-101 air-launched cruise missiles for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers. In terms of its characteristics, the munition surpasses many Western counterparts.

The missile was created in the late 1990s as a low-observable and high-precision long-range weapon capable of hitting the most protected targets. In 2012, the Kh-101 entered service.

One of the most important technical advantages of the Kh-101 is the missile guidance system, which combines GLONASS satellite and inertial navigation with electro-optical terrain correction.

In the final phase of the flight, its accuracy is increased by radar and optical homing heads, making the Kh-101 an effective means of destroying key infrastructure. The Kh-101 is launched from Tu-95MS, Tu-160, Tu-22M3 and Su-34 aircraft. Tu-160 bombers are capable of carrying up to 12 such missiles.

Analysts at Onet concluded that the Russian military industry is capable of producing up to 70 Kh-101 cruise missiles monthly.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the new patrol ship «Холмск» was launched.
