From March 2026, taxi drivers will be forced to switch to localized cars. They are now seeking the adoption of a standard for automakers that supports the relevant law.
The initiative includes requirements for the technical specifications of vehicles. The engine power should be 100–150 hp, fuel consumption — 5–7 liters per 100 km, safety margin — at least 300 thousand km before overhaul, as well as front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. It is also proposed to limit the cost of the basic configuration to 1–1.5 million rubles and establish a manufacturer's warranty of at least three years.
The letter contains a proposal to award additional localization points for cars that meet the proposed state standard.
Currently, the law on taxi localization does not contain specific requirements for cars, but they should be spelled out in the sub-laws of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In the absence of such standards, automakers can act on the principle of "buy what they give," which causes concern among carriers.
The main consequence of the new law is also considered to be a significant increase in the cost of taxi rides. The requirement to purchase cars of certain brands for passenger transportation will spur price increases and lead to a sharp reduction in the number of carriers.
Earlier www1.ru reported that taxi fleets will accelerate the purchase of foreign cars due to the new law on the localization of cars.
