World's most powerful liquid-propellant rocket engine RD-171MV to be assembled in Samara

Roscosmos State Corporation has sent the RD-171MV rocket engine to Samara for assembly as part of the first stage of the Soyuz-5 rocket. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.

The power plant has already passed fire tests at NPO Energomash. The next stage includes testing as part of the first stage of the rocket at the Samara RCC Progress.

The RD-171MV engine is designed for the promising domestic Soyuz-5 rocket, which belongs to the class of medium-lift rockets and is capable of delivering up to 17 tons of payload into low Earth orbit. The development of Soyuz-5 is carried out within the framework of the Baiterek project, aimed at replacing obsolete rockets and maintaining cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Roscosmos postponed the development of the Angara-A5V rocket.
