Five of Russia's sixteen cities with a population of over one million will be covered by 5G cellular communication by 2026. The network will appear in the remaining nine cities by 2028, according to the State Commission on Radio Frequencies.
The schedule for 5G network coverage in cities is still under discussion with industry representatives and may be adjusted based on the network construction practices that will develop.
Experts suggest that Moscow and cities in the central part of the country will be the first to receive 5G.
However, the use of 5G in settlements located along the borders of Russia may face problems due to interference. Full provision of the country with 5G is currently difficult, as the production of the new generation of communication is planned on domestic network equipment, and this process is in its initial stages.
Some companies also note that the 4.8–4.99 GHz frequency can only be used additionally, since the low number of smartphones supporting this range does not allow for high-quality indoor coverage.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Ministry of Digital Development will launch auctions for 5G frequencies by the end of the year.
