A solemn ceremony was held in St. Petersburg to transfer the large diesel-electric submarine "Yakutsk" of Project 636.3 to the Russian Navy. The event took place at the Admiralty Shipyards under the leadership of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Vorobyov, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
"Yakutsk" became the sixth in a series of submarines being built for the Pacific Fleet. The submarine was laid down in August 2021 and launched in October 2024. After completing all stages of factory sea trials and state tests, it was officially accepted into the fleet.
The submarine has an underwater displacement of about 3,950 tons, a length of more than 74 meters, and a crew of 52 people. The main armament consists of torpedoes and Kalibr cruise missiles, capable of hitting targets both at sea and on land.
The Project 636.3 submarines are designed to destroy surface ships and vessels, enemy submarines, patrol, guard duty, reconnaissance, and protect communications in the near sea zone. The working immersion depth is 240 m, and the maximum depth is 300 m.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Kalibr carriers, the Yakutsk and Velikiye Luki submarines, were sent to St. Petersburg for completion.
