Rapid Cholera Test Created at "Microbe" Institute: Result in 60 Minutes

Russian Scientists' Development Speeds Up Cholera Diagnosis Sixfold

Specialists at the Russian Anti-Plague Institute "Microbe" of Rospotrebnadzor have developed and registered a new rapid test for diagnosing cholera, which allows analysis to be carried out six times faster compared to existing analogues.

The new test not only identifies the presence of the cholera vibrio but also determines its epidemic significance – that is, whether it poses a threat of widespread disease. The analysis takes 60 minutes instead of the previous six hours, which significantly increases the effectiveness of epidemiological surveillance.

The test has high sensitivity and can detect even minimal amounts of the pathogen. This is especially important for the early detection of asymptomatic carriers and the prevention of cholera outbreaks. The production capacity of the "Microbe" Institute allows the production of up to 20,000 tests per year, which is sufficient to ensure control in the Russian Federation.

The department emphasizes that the availability of high-precision and rapid diagnostic systems is a key element in prevention, timely response, and ensuring the sanitary safety of citizens.
