More than 1.5 million foreign citizens have registered their biometric data in the Unified Biometric System (UBS) to obtain new or renew existing SIM cards in Russia. This was reported by the press service of the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT), the operator of the UBS.
According to them, registrations came from citizens of more than 130 countries around the world, but about 90% of applications came from representatives of countries in the near abroad.
When registering voice data, the system can record the voice in any language, and therefore foreigners do not need to reproduce a digital sequence in Russian.
The CBT reminded that all foreign citizens in Russia must re-register their existing SIM cards before July 1, 2025. In addition, in accordance with current regulations, no more than ten SIM cards can be registered per person.
