Fraudsters have developed a new scheme to deceive people via Telegram on the eve of Russia Day, the Digital Expertise Center of Roskachestvo reported. Experts noted a sharp increase in the activity of bots that offer users large cash prizes from the state in honor of the holiday.
Roskachestvo warns: fraudsters distribute Telegram bots through spam mailings and advertising on social networks and messengers. They promise Russians a million rubles as prizes for participating in "draws" for the holiday. To do this, they ask to provide contacts and enter a code from an SMS or messenger under the pretext of verifying identity or registration.
The main goal of such fraudulent schemes is to gain access to users' Telegram accounts. Entering the code gives attackers complete control over the account, allowing them to send spam, distribute malware, and even deceive the victim's friends and acquaintances.
Russians were reminded of several important rules: be careful and do not follow suspicious links. Do not participate in suspicious sweepstakes, especially those that promise large cash prizes. To protect your account, enable two-factor authentication in your Telegram settings. This will greatly complicate the task for attackers.
Earlier, Kaspersky Lab reported on a new fraudulent scheme. Attackers not only steal personal data and money, but also steal people's photos. Criminals pose as sellers on classifieds sites and ask to go to third-party messengers to communicate.
