Specialists from the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) at the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute" have developed a new paint coating for aircraft that reduces the need for its renewal by 40%, the scientific center's press service reported.
Compared to foreign counterparts, the new paint coating reduces the frequency of repairs by at least 40% and shortens the painting cycle by more than 50%. In addition, its own weight is 35% lower than that of its counterparts.
The new coating is suitable for various materials (metal, polymers, and composites). It consists of fluoropolyurethane enamel and weather-resistant varnish. This ensures high protection and durability. The material is fully ready for implementation into production and can be used to protect any aviation equipment.
Research has shown that the polymer materials we have developed have high film-forming ability and excellent technological, physical-mechanical, and operational characteristics.
Earlier www1.ru reported that TPU developed a coating that can withstand 1100 °C and does not oxidize.
