The new tools will allow implantation even with bone tissue atrophy

Scientists at Sechenov University have completed the development of design documentation for a universal surgical kit designed for dental implantation in the most complex clinical cases. The project was implemented jointly by the E.V. Borovsky Institute of Dentistry and the Center for Engineering Development at Sechenov University. The patent for the invention is expected to be оформлен by the end of 2025.

Currently, Russian dentists predominantly use imported instruments, which often do not cover all the necessary surgical manipulations. As Leonid Borozdkin, Associate Professor of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, explained, existing kits are designed for a specific operation, and in complex cases, doctors have to combine instruments from different sets. The new kit includes about 50 specialized devices, among which:

  • Фрезы for forming a bed for implants.
  • Экспандеры for expanding bone tissue.
  • Декортикаторы for removing the surface layer of bone.
  • Динамометрические отвертки with automatic tightening mode.
There will be an opportunity to use the automatic tightening mode, similar to a construction screwdriver.

A feature of the development is the possibility of performing bone пластики – for example, направленной регенерации or сэндвич-пластики, which is critically important in tissue atrophy.

According to Alexander Kulish, Director of Technology Commercialization at Sechenov University, a 3D-model of the kit is currently being created, and a working prototype will be ready by the end of the year. After testing and obtaining a registration certificate, small-scale production will begin at the Center for Engineering Development, followed by industrial production.

The kit is compatible with any implantation systems, including the Russian ИРИС (Innovative Russian Implantation System), whose service life is 2-3 times higher than that of many foreign analogues.
