A mass ejection of plasma with record-breaking characteristics in history has been recorded on the Sun. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS.
An exceptionally strong jump in all parameters of the interplanetary medium was recorded on Sunday at 08:30 Moscow time. The speed of the solar wind now exceeds 1000 km/s at times.
Very high values of density and temperature are also observed. The latter, if we believe the satellite data, is now more than 2 million degrees, with normal values around 100 thousand degrees, that is, it has higher values than the plasma temperature in the solar corona.
There is a possibility that such values have never been recorded in the history of observations, or are close to historical maximums.
Astronomers noted that if we are talking about the cloud of plasma ejected yesterday that came to Earth, then it overcame the distance from the Sun to Earth in an exceptionally fast, close to record time, less than 30 hours, almost a day faster than predicted.
There is hope that a small, exceptionally fast, plasma filament, which, for unknown reasons, had a rare speed and other parameters, came to Earth, and the main mass of gas still has more moderate characteristics and will arrive later. If we are still talking about the main eruption, then today, almost inevitably, storms of the 5th highest level will begin in the very near future.
