The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia has announced the introduction of a new feature on the "Gosuslugi" portal. In the third quarter of 2025, users will be able to appoint a trusted person who will confirm the password change.
According to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadaev, each user will be able to choose a person with an account on "Gosuslugi" whom they trust. If it becomes necessary to change the password, a notification will be sent to the trusted person. They will have to confirm or reject this action. This measure is designed to protect users from fraudulent activities.
Now, conditionally, a fraudster lures an SMS with a code, the person reports this code, and the fraudster changes the user's password on Gosuslugi. After the introduction of the second factor in the form of a trusted person, the fraudster will not be able to do this.
According to him, with the introduction of the trusted person function, such a scheme will become impossible. Even if a fraudster receives the code, they will not be able to change the password without the consent of the trusted person.
