The supply of "Ural" vehicle kits to the former Volvo plant in Kaluga has been temporarily suspended. This was announced in an exclusive interview with the Telegram channel "Trucks and more" by the director of the car factory, Pavel Yakovlev. The production of trucks at this site will resume only in two cases: if the market requires additional cars and if the capacity of "Ural" itself is overloaded.
Now we are fine with the capacity. If suddenly the market wants more, we will return to work with the Kaluga site. This is a car assembly plant, which Volvo built in its time - it is universal. This year, since April, we have not been producing cars there. If the market requires production or we have any problems, we will resume. Everything is there to continue assembling. The main question is how much the market needs. We are not going to assemble cars for the warehouse.
The plant in Kaluga previously belonged to Volvo Cars, but after the departure of the Swedish manufacturer, part of the capacity was re-profiled. In 2023, "Ural" began supplying vehicle kits there for the assembly of its trucks. However, this process is now suspended due to sufficient production volume at the main production facility in Miass.
