Rosatom plans to bring the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to full capacity. The initiative is in the approval stage, according to Alexey Likhachev, head of the state corporation.
We have developed a plan to bring the Zaporozhye NPP to full capacity. The plan is undergoing interdepartmental approvals from the energy regulators.
According to Likhachev, four key tasks need to be solved for the successful implementation of the plan. It is necessary to restore water supply, power grids, railway infrastructure and provide fuel to the reactors. Currently, two reactors use Russian fuel, and four use American fuel. Negotiations are underway with the IAEA on these issues.
It is also necessary to determine the consumers of electricity and distribute it in a balanced way. Likhachev emphasized that the speed of implementation of the plan depends on the overall situation.
The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It consists of six VVER-1000 power units. The station has not generated electricity since September 11, 2022, and all six reactors are in cold shutdown mode.
