More than 88% of mobile applications in Russia have critical vulnerabilities

Applications in the "Medical Services" category became leaders in the number of problems

Cybersecurity experts have revealed alarming data about the state of mobile applications in Russia. Almost 30 thousand vulnerabilities were found in popular applications, and the number of critical threats has quadrupled over the past year.

A study by AppSec Solutions covered more than 1.6 thousand applications, many of which are in the top 100 downloads on the Android platform. The results showed that 88.6% of applications have vulnerabilities of a "critical" or "high" level.

In 2023, experts recorded 41.5 thousand vulnerabilities, but in 2024 their number decreased to 30 thousand. However, the level of danger increased due to an increase in critical-level "loopholes": 83 instead of 22 a year earlier. Applications in the "Medical Services" category became leaders in the number of problems.

Experts note that in the "Digital Services" category, including applications of telecom operators and platforms for webinars, developers often neglect security, leaving many shortcomings. Critical vulnerabilities are most often found in banking applications.

Alexey Rybalko, an expert at Kaspersky Lab, noted that not all errors in the code lead to vulnerabilities, but their number directly affects the likelihood of critical problems.

Evgeny Yanov, Head of Audit and Consulting Department at F6, believes that vulnerabilities can threaten the confidentiality and integrity of data.
