Luch Satellites to Reach New Heights: Communication Now at Altitudes Up to 20,000 km

New Luch-5VM Satellite to Expand Coverage Area and Increase Data Transmission Stability

Specialists at JSC "Reshetnev" (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation structure) are working to modernize the Luch satellite system. The updated devices will be able to operate at altitudes up to 20,000 km.

The new satellite, named Luch-5VM, is being developed to improve the efficiency of data retransmission between low-orbit spacecraft and ground control centers. Unlike existing satellites covering orbits up to 2,000 km, the modernized devices will be able to provide communication at a significantly higher altitude, which will expand the coverage area and increase the stability of transmission channels.

The project is being implemented on the basis of the universal medium-class satellite platform "Express-1000K", which provides the necessary energy intensity and structural flexibility for the placement of advanced equipment.

Expanding the technical characteristics of the Luch system will strengthen the data transmission infrastructure in orbit, which is of strategic importance for maintaining reliable communication with Russian spacecraft and increasing the autonomy of national programs in space.
