One of the flagships of the Russian Navy, the heavy nuclear cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov," is completing its modernization and will soon return to service. The main improvement in terms of the cruiser's armament will be the strengthening of its air defense.
The Project 1144.2M "Orlan" ship will receive S-300FM "Fort" anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs), a naval version of the S-300PM system. The presence of this complex will enable the Russian Navy to counter ballistic missiles and shoot down other complex aerial targets. S-300FM SAMs entered service back in 1990. The "Fort" modification was the first to use the 48N6 missile, unified with the land-based S-300PM complex. This missile is capable of delivering a warhead weighing 150 kg to a target at a distance of up to 150 km.
In addition to advanced naval air defense systems, the modernized cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" will receive ten universal firing complexes, each containing eight Oniks and Kalibr-NK cruise missiles.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rostec has delivered new Su-35S fighters to the Russian Aerospace Forces.
