Strengthening the Fleet in the Arctic: New Rescue Vessels Raise Flags in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

Project NE025 vessels are capable of breaking ice up to 80 cm thick

The ceremony of raising state flags on the rescue tugs "Uzon" and "Pechak" took place in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The vessels were built according to project NE025, they should strengthen the emergency rescue fleet of the Marine Rescue Service.

The vessels will be intended for conducting rescue operations and ensuring safe maneuvering of large vessels in the difficult conditions of the ports of the Northern Sea Route.

The main advantage of the new tugs will be the optimization of design solutions using domestic equipment. The introduction of the vessels will increase the safety of navigation along the Northern Sea Route and make the route more attractive for carriers.

The tugs are capable of breaking ice up to 80 cm thick in summer and up to 60 cm in winter. They will operate in the northern latitudes, where the Northern Sea Route is becoming an important transport artery with growing traffic volumes.

The projects of these vessels were developed by Russian specialists and built at a domestic shipyard. In total, five Arctic tugs were built under project NE025, which indicates the development of a fleet for operation in the Arctic region.
