Процессор «Эльбрус-Б», превосходящий аналоги от AMD и Intel в 30-200 раз, выпустят в 2027 году

The new processor will have a unique architecture using parallel computing

Russian developers Boris and Evgeny Babayan presented a project to create the «Elbrus-B» microprocessor with a fundamentally new architecture based on parallel computing.

According to the authors, the chip, which is scheduled for release in 2027, will surpass foreign analogues by 30–200 times with the same technological standards. For example, a processor manufactured using the 90nm process technology will be comparable in power to imported 14nm solutions.

A key feature of the system is the deep integration of the hardware platform, operating system, and «El-22» programming language, specially created for working with parallel tasks. This allows you to distribute computing operations between many independent modules, minimizing downtime and increasing overall efficiency. The architecture also provides increased data security and resistance to external influences, which is critical for state and defense systems.

The project, which started in 2022, has already attracted the attention of international partners, including India, with which preliminary agreements have been signed for $2 billion. Leading universities and scientific centers in Russia and friendly countries are involved in the development. However, experts express doubts: creating a full-fledged ecosystem (compilers, libraries, software) around the new architecture requires colossal resources. In addition, the physical limitations of modern semiconductor technologies may negate the advantages of parallelism.

The «Elbrus-B» project is not just a new microprocessor, but an ambitious attempt by Russia to re-launch its own processor architecture from scratch, in the context of a technological embargo and the desire for technological sovereignty. The bet is on a fundamentally different architecture that can circumvent the limitations of classic Intel, AMD or ARM solutions not by copying, but by rethinking the very principle of processor operation.
