Soviet aircraft helped forge victory in the Great Patriotic War

By May 9th, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, using artificial intelligence, presented how aircraft from the Great Patriotic War era would look in modern comics or computer games. The series "Air Heroes of Victory" includes the Il-2 attack aircraft, I-16 and La-5 fighters, the Su-2 multi-purpose aircraft, and the TB-3 bomber.

The legendary "flying tank", the nimble "donkey", the multi-purpose "dryer", the gigantic "troika", the easy-to-handle "bench".

Il-2 — Soviet attack aircraft, the "flying tank". Developed at OKB-240 under the leadership of the famous designer Sergei Ilyushin. It is considered the most mass-produced combat aircraft in aviation history. It was produced at factories in Kuibyshev and Nizhny Tagil.

I-16 — a single-engine monoplane fighter. It was created in the KB OGPU, project manager — Nikolai Polikarpov. The aircraft had a wooden structure with plywood sheathing, as well as retractable landing gear. Pilots affectionately called the I-16 the "donkey".

La-5 — a single-engine monoplane fighter developed by Semyon Lavochkin, who worked at OKB-21 in Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod). A feature of the aircraft was its all-wooden construction. The fighter was nicknamed "bench".

Su-2 (BB-1) — a short-range bomber created in the KB of Pavel Sukhoi. Thanks to its maneuverability and good visibility from the cockpit, it was used as an artillery fire spotter. Su-2 pilots also performed other tasks, including reconnaissance.

TB-3 — a heavy bomber developed at TsAGI under the leadership of Andrei Tupolev. It became the basis for the production of future bomber aircraft. No TB-3s have survived to this day.
