Project 21980 boats are designed to protect the water areas of Russia

A solemn ceremony of laying down the hulls of two anti-sabotage boats of project 21980 code "Grachonok" took place at the Zelenodolsk plant named after Gorky in Tatarstan. They became the 14th and 15th combat units of the plant, the press service of the Zelenodolsk region said.

The laying ceremony was attended by the head of the combat training department of the main command of the Russian Navy, Rear Admiral Oleg Korolev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Dmitry Guskov, and others.

Project 21980 boats are equipped with modern equipment and are designed to protect the water areas of Russia and protect naval bases from terrorist attacks and sabotage.

Thanks to high maneuverability and modern equipment, the boats are capable of performing a wide range of combat missions, including combating unmanned aerial vehicles. The "Grachonoks" developed by the Vympel Design Bureau have been built at the Zelenodolsk plant since 2008. During this time, the shipyard has transferred 13 ships of this project to the Russian Navy.
