Fraudsters are offering virtual cards in Telegram, promising to facilitate payment for purchases abroad and subscriptions to foreign services. This was reported by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and federal coordinator of the "Digital Russia" party project.
Scammers have started using schemes with virtual cards, which they offer to create via Telegram. They advertise this method as a "safe and convenient" solution for purchases abroad, subscriptions to foreign services, or bypassing sanctions restrictions.
Nemkin claims that users are promised quick registration of a virtual card without checks. Sometimes they even offer bonuses or cashback. Basic information is often requested for registration: name, phone number. Sometimes they ask for passport data - it depends on the scheme of the fraudsters. Then the person is given the card details, as if it is linked to a foreign bank or payment system. But in reality, such cards do not exist.
Nemkin explained that the interface substitution method is often used. The user is given access to a fake website or application where he sees information about the balance and transactions. However, in reality, the money either does not arrive in the account, or is immediately transferred to fraudsters.
Some schemes are based on luring out the details of real cards: under the pretext of "refilling" or "linking", fraudsters gain access to the victim's account.
Earlier, Russians were warned about a fraud scheme with offers of bank shares.
